$3bn in elder financial abuse, up 12% over last year

A new report out by the Metlife Mature Market Institute on Elder Financial Abuse makes for sobering reading. Clearly people with dementia are particularly vulnerable to this.

Plus, a categorization of three types of abuse: Occasion (getting in the way, not personal), desperation (perpetrator so desperate they'll do anything) and predation (preying on the victim). Seems that this is really just two categories - premediated and opportunistic, but that's splitting hairs. What's in no doubt is that financial abuse is the most common motivator here.
