Aging2.0 and the Erickson School at UMBC have teamed up to provide a unique evening featuring both networking opportunities and a diverse panel discussion around adoption of voice interface technology in the older adult population. The New Era of Voice: Engagement and Well-Being event will help to shape the conversation behind the design, opportunities, usage, and obstacles of voice user interfaces. Come join us on April 3rd, 2019 from 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM at UMBC for an evening of innovation.


Panelists include: 

  • Galina Madjaroff is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and a Clinical Associate Professor at the Erickson School. Her research focuses on improving the lives of older persons through the use of accessible technology as well as alleviating privacy and security concerns online for older persons. Her most recent work focused on alleviating caregiver and care recipient burden after the onset of cognitive impairment through the use of the Amazon Echo “Alexa” intelligent agent.
  • Ryan Elza is the Social Entrepreneur in Residence for Social Connectedness at the AARP Foundation. He is the program lead for the Foundation’s Voice-Activated Technology Program to reduce isolation. Ryan has an extensive background in social enterprise, the social determinants of health, design thinking, and civic engagement.
  • Julie Masiello is the Senior VP of Technology and Marketing at Brightview Senior Living. Julie provides strategic direction for the technology, marketing, and sales teams, including all customer facing and internal technologies, communications, tools, and resources. Prior to joining Brightview Senior Living in 2016, she held marketing leadership roles in the insurance and banking industries, including positions at Transamerica, Arch Insurance Group, and Citibank.
  • Fred Berney participated in Galina's research study and is heavily involved in enhancing the experience of older adults with dementia through VUI.

Parking: There is a circle in front of the building where attendees can be dropped off. There is handicapped parking along the sidewalk to the left of the building, and a parking lot (free parking) in front of the building that attendees can park in.
