Improving Resilience to COVID-19 via Fitness: front line experience and medical guidelines

Wed, Jul 29, 2020, 4:00 PM (BST)

It has been said by the US National Institute on Aging....

If exercise could be packaged in a pill, it would be the single most widely prescribed and beneficial medicine in the nation”. This statement continues to be true even during the pandemic. Exercise has the potential to improve our resilience to COVID-19.

Join us 4pm BST on Weds 29 July to hear from experts delivering results that matter to people across the health spectrum during these highly disrupted times.

Carron Manning – Co-founder and CEO EXi, Chartered Physiotherapist (previously English Institute of Sport)

EXi (previously called iPrescribe Exercise) is an automated programme which analyses user health, resting heart rate, current fitness and disease status, and prescribes a personalised and graduated physical activity programme which is set at exactly the right level for each person. It can also specifically target any number of 20 long term conditions (such as heart disease, diabetes and hypertension), with a tailored exercise programme – all based on the latest medical guidelines. EXi is published on the NHS Apps Library, and it won GSK’s global self-care competition in 2019.

Questions to be covered in the webinar include:

1. How do we provide low-cost scalable interventions to increase physical activity and fitness amongst the people who most need it?

2. What impact will obesity and multi-morbidity have on healthcare provision both now and in the post-COVID world?

3. How can we address the health inequalities, that have been exposed by COVID, with digital interventions?

4. What impact can a digital health/fitness intervention have on current provision of services to help people with long term conditions get active and improve their health?
