Join other Kansas City aging experts, advocates and innovators for our May Innovation in Aging event.
This month we are partnering with our friends from the Atlanta Aging2.0 chapter with an event featuring live audiences in both cities, as well as, a live webinar for online participation.
Social isolation, loneliness, lack of engagement, a shrinking world and a diminished sense of purpose are all issues effecting seniors today. This month we’ll hear from two organizations approaching these issues in innovative ways.
Our first presenter will be Lynne Beachner, co-founder of The Senior Learning Network.
The Senior Learning Network provides high quality lifelong learning for older adults that is expansive and interactive. Lynne will discuss how their approach to live webinars brings remarkable people and locations right into seniors’ worlds and drives socialization and engagement. This includes everything from visiting behind the scenes of the ballet and talking to the dancers to discussing books with the authors and hearing live from curators of museums such as the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library.
Our second speaker will be Amber Carroll who is the Director of Well Connected, a Covia Community Service.
Covia’s mission is to promote positive aging by cultivating healthy and engaged communities with a continuum of innovative services that actively support intellectual, physical, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being. Based in California, Covia offers three creative aging programs that are available to older adults living throughout the United States and require nothing more than a telephone. Well Connected and Well Connected Español connect individuals to group activities, classes, support groups, games, and much more. For individualized engagement, Social Call matches individuals for regularly scheduled friendly calls. All three programs uniquely leverage older adults as both program participants and volunteers. Learn more about how you can connect yourself and/or older adults in your life to rich engagement opportunities from the comfort of home.
