Join other KC aging experts, advocates and innovators for our monthly Innovation in Aging event. Each month Aging2.0 Kansas City presents speakers covering topics related to aging and innovation followed by in-depth discussion.
This month will be a focus on caregiving.
Our first speaker will be Denise Graab, Director of Industry Marketing, for Caring.com.
In their Caregiver Journey research among senior care searchers online, Caring.com asked many questions to get a deep understanding of their experiences, and gleaned important insights about their living arrangements, biggest caregiving challenges, what they most need help with, what prompts their moves to senior living, and more.
Denise will present insights from the 2017 Caregiver Journey Survey including:
• Who the family caregivers in America are
• Their biggest senior care challenges
• Use of professional care services
Our second speakers will be Ernest Kutzley, Associate State Director, Advocacy, for AARP Kansas, and Judy Bellome, AARP Kansas Executive Council Member.
Caring for a friend, family member or loved one? You’re not alone.
There are more than 42 million family caregivers in the US and more than 345,000 in Kansas, providing care for aging parents, spouses, friends or other loved ones, enabling them to live independently in their own homes.
Thanks to the advocacy of AARP Kansas and its partners, there is a new law, The Kansas Lay Caregiver Act, that will help support caregivers.
• Learn about the new Kansas law to support caregivers when a loved one returns home from the hospital.
• Connect and exchange tips and ideas with fellow caregivers.
• Explore caregiving resources available in Kansas
Aging2.0 Kansas City's Innovation in Aging meetings are held at the GlynnDevins office at 8880 Ward Parkway (just south of the Ward Parkway Center). The best parking is west of the GlynnDevins building in a lot with access to the building via a skywalk (someone will be at the door to direct you). You can also park in the parking garage, but the garage can fill up. The meeting room is located downstairs on the first floor.
The room will be available until 11:00 am to allow for networking and continued discussion.
